Scott R. Wiehle
BIOGRAPHY
Scott R. Wiehle joined Kelly Hart in 2008 and is a partner in the firm’s Litigation practice group. Prior to joining the firm, Mr. Wiehle worked at national law firms located in Chicago and Dallas. He attended the University of Oklahoma and Yale Law School.
Mr. Wiehle has considerable experience representing both plaintiffs and defendants in state and federal courts in a broad range of complex civil litigation matters, including business torts, fraud related lawsuits, tax litigation, personal injury claims, oil and gas litigation, and indemnity and insurance disputes.
Mr. Wiehle’s community service includes Meals on Wheels of Tarrant County, Boy Scouts of America, and Girl Scouts of America. Mr. Wiehle is also a member of the Leadership Fort Worth 2012-2012 Leadership Class. He and his wife, Krista, are raising three daughters and one son.
EXPERIENCE AND HIGHLIGHTS
- Represented a Fort Worth-area real estate development company in a complex and novel insurance coverage dispute that resulted in a favorable summary judgment
- Represented a non-profit entertainment venue in Fort Worth in a slip and fall case that resulted in a favorable summary judgment
- Represented two local businessmen in a lawsuit arising from a stock purchase agreement that resulted in a favorable summary judgment
- Represents an online travel company in tax disputes around the country, resulting in the dismissal of claims or summary judgment in numerous lawsuits
- Member of litigation team that represented the New York Times in Tyler state court in a libel and defamation action brought by a local resident and local company over a Pulitzer Prize winning series about worker safety in McWane Industries plants, including Tyler Pipe, which resulted in a favorable summary judgment
- Member of litigation and trial team that represented a Louisiana hospital in a two-week federal court jury trial (first federal court civil trial in New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina) in a precedent-setting case brought by a Washington hospital involving the existence and extent of the duty of disclosure about physicians during the credentialing process; after the jury assessed 25 percent of the liability on the New Orleans hospital and 75 percent on other parties and the Washington hospital, the Fifth Circuit reversed and rendered judgment completely in favor the Louisiana hospital
- Member of litigation and trial team that successfully defended Lutron Electronics, Inc. in a $280 million patent infringement suit in a three-week jury trial; the jury found no infringement and further found the patent to be invalid
