Elizabeth Geary

BIOGRAPHY

Elizabeth Geary is a partner in the firm’s appellate section and is Board Certified in Civil Appellate Law. Ms. Geary handles appeals throughout the state of Texas and New Mexico. Ms. Geary has handled briefing and oral argument on multiple occasions before the Texas Supreme Court, the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals, and numerous state courts of appeals, including the appeal of final judgments, as well as interlocutory appeals and petitions for writs of mandamus. In addition, Ms. Geary actively litigates in both state and federal courts, acting as lead trial counsel in multi-million dollar disputes, in a wide range of areas, including disputes in intellectual property, commercial, corporate and financial, energy, and estate disputes. Ms. Geary also often assists other trial attorneys in handling complex briefing, oral argument, and evidentiary hearings.

Ms. Geary is the publisher of the Present and Ready Blog—a publication offering insights for trial strategy and procedure from an appellate specialist’s perspective. She has previously taught legal practice and writing, as well as winery and vineyard law, as an adjunct professor at Texas Tech School of Law.

Ms. Geary received her J.D. from Texas Tech School of Law, where she graduated summa cum laude. Geary was a member of the Law Review and received an Outstanding Student Article award for her published written article and the Outstanding Comment Editor award for her leadership and mentoring of other Law Review members. In addition, Geary was a two-time National Champion in intercollegiate moot court competitions and won multiple oral advocacy awards, including overall Best Oral Advocate at the Texas Young Lawyers Moot Court State Championship in 2012. Ms. Geary received the elite distinction of being elected to both the National Order of the Coif for academic excellence and National Order of the Barristers for courtroom advocacy accomplishments. In addition to her legal career, Ms. Geary presently serves on the Board of Directors for the Lubbock Chamber of Commerce and is a past President of the Board of Directors for the Lubbock YWCA.
