Since April 2022, Loulan J. Pitre Jr . has acted Special Counsel on Offshore Wind Energy to the Greater Lafourche Port Commission, which operates Port Fourchon (Greater Lafourche Port Commission (portfourchon.com), a leading offshore energy port.
On February 8, 2023, Port Fourchon reached a deal with Crowley, a leading maritime, logistics, and energy solutions company, regarding a right of first refusal for its division Crowley Wind Services to build an offshore wind terminal at Port Fourchon on Louisiana’s coast. According to Crowley, Port Fourchon has a 40-acre site with 2,200 feet of waterfront that might become an offshore wind terminal in the years ahead. In addition, interest in the Gulf of Mexico’s wind potential is picking up, and the U.S. Bureau of Ocean Energy Management has announced a proposed lease sale in the Gulf of Mexico in 2023, which could be serviced from Port Fourchon.
